Pia Brown

All Pia Brown’s ceramics are slab built. Meaning, that even the bowls start as a slab and are not thrown on a wheel. Her favorite shape is the “box”. And her favorite activity is either stamping or embellishing her ceramic pieces. All her stamps are hand made as well. “Made with creative giggles”, is her tag line. She tries really really hard to be structured and practical, but …. spontaneous and whimsical usually win out. That’s why you will find funky, garden imps, crows and fish among the boxes and bowls. Every piece is an original, with no two pieces alike as a result of constantly experimenting with layering different glazes. Finishes range from matt to high gloss, subtle earthy shades to bold bright colors. All are lead-free. The exception is the Raku pieces that undergo a special process and are not food safe. These metallic rustic looking pieces are very distinctive and typical of that age old process. In addition to working in clay, Pia knits, quilts, gardens and is a business consultant when not traveling. Her two grown children, one grandchild and husband are the love of her life.
